EARTH TALK SERIES

The Earth Talks Series harnesses the knowledge of experts around the world through a series of conferences aiming at addressing a particular issue regarding the planetary ecological crisis.

Throughout the years at AYCM, we have had the honour to host world-renowned experts in their fields who have brought localised insights into Qatar’s particular position regarding the climate crisis, which has resulted in the dissemination of knowledge and the engagement of the public.

CARBON
FOOTPRINT

Carbon footprint is a method to measure the impact of human activities on the environment and is a leading cause of global warming. Our lifestyle determines the magnitude of the impact. Our goal is to cultivate behaviors that have less impact on the environment we live and depend on.

To do so, we must measure the impact of each household on the environment. This month-long campaign is to encourage high-school students across Qatar to participate in this survey. This anonymous survey collects detailed data about everything you consume at your home. You have to fill out the survey on the below website, and it will give instant results on your household carbon footprint.

The results will be compared with global and national averages, and it will tell if you are living within a fair share of carbon footprint. AYCMQ, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Public Health, Supreme Committee and Delivery and Legacy, and UNESCO are conducting this joint study to understand better the consumption profile of the diverse community in Qatar to create effective education and awareness campaigns.

ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADORS OF QATAR

Environmental Ambassadors of Qatar is an active, educational leadership programme developed by the educational team at Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar (AYCMQA) and National Geographic Explorers for 2022-2023. Our programmes focus on timeless, universal ecological principles applicable to all natural ecosystems in addition to location-specific subjects.

This year we will particularly focus on a new citizen science-based research effort to digitise data on marine mammal strandings in Qatar with new mobile-based technologies. This co-designed citizen science programme will include how public and community participation in scientific research, participatory monitoring, and participatory action research will help improve and increase the public's understanding of science.
